Homemade Lotion ~ Stress Relief

This winter is dry!  I don’t now about you, but I am washing my hands even more with this nasty flu and it’s germs living everywhere.  Between the dry air from the constantly running wood burning stove, and pellet stove, and the lack of snow we’re getting here, and the repeated hand washing, my hands are DRY!

There was a time that I loved all the smelly lotions sold in malls and speciality stores.  But have you read the ingredients?  I’m working hard to remove all those nasty toxins from our day to day use, and oh my gosh, you rub lotion all over your largest organ!

So I thought I’d try a go at making my own.  I love being able to control what goes in there, and the strength of the smell.

All you need are a couple of measuring spoons, an upright mixer, and a glass container to keep it all in!

-2 Cups Pure Shea Butter, I got mine at Whole Foods

-2 Cups Pure, unrefined organic Coconut Oil

-1/2 Cup Arrowroot Powder

-3 teaspoons (or so) pure beeswax

-50 or so drops of lavender oil, (you could stop there, lavender lotion smells amazing, but I also added 10 drops of: Sweet marjoram, Clary sage, Rose geranium, Bergamot

I threw this all in my kitchen aid mixer and blended on a middle speed for 15 – 20 minutes, until well blended and melted together all nice and smooth.

Move to a glass jar and use at night, you don’t need a lot it and it leaves your skin so soft and smooth!
